John: I completely agree with the crop...I tried and I tried to crop it tighter, but nothing was to my liking, so I decided that that was the "best crop" for this shot. But then you posted what you did and that got my brain gears turning again, and then I realized that I was looking at this thing all wrong. I had been trying horizontal crops, and those just didn't work...so I tried a vertical crop...what do you think???

As for landscapes...sadly Korea isn't exactly a scenic country. For one thing, it's all mountains, so you won't get any sweeping landscape shots. Your best bet is to find a mountaintop and take landscape shots of other mountaintops, which can look good, thanks to haze/pollution.
Seascapes can be very nice, though...Korea has coasts on 3 sides, and they're all awesome. I'd highly recommend Jeju...I absolutely loved it there. They call it Korea's Hawaii (perhaps a little too optimistically)...you may not be blown away by it since you live in the real Hawaii, but it's wroth visiting, I think.
