I don't usually shoot people, but lately I've been getting into some more candid photography again, and shot a few while on a trip to Beijing, China a few weeks ago:

My favourite: An army guard at the Gate of Heavenly Peace; the entrance to Tiananmen Square, with Chairman Mao Zedong looking over his shoulder:

An old man doing some traditional writing at the Summer Palace:

A child checking out some of the street food for sale, including live scorpions (that are then dipped in hot oil and fried, then eaten):

Cheers,
Tamas

What lens did you use for your street photography? I tend to use a 200mm and stand back a bit so i am not right in peoples business. I will be in China for the first time in january. Love the 3rd shot

Thank you so much, everyone, I really appreciate the comments. I haven't shot people for fun in a long, long time, but I'm really enjoying it!

johnandbentley: The first one was with the 100 f2 and the second and third ones were with the 16-35L II. I like to be in the action, rather than standing back. Though it's much more challenging, as people are more aware of the camera.

Gaarryy: Thanks :) I'm going to post some more of the landscape/city shots in a bit :) Until then, check out my Flickr ( http://www.flickr.com/tamasv (external link) ) I have a bunch up there

Neat images... I love to shoot in China. I'd love to return but my wife says that she will never travel anywhere that includes a flight of the duration of between San Francisco and Beijing.

I especially love #2 and #3.

You just can't travel in China without photographing those friendly and picturesque people...

These are great shots! I like the fact that you get up close with people when you're taking their pictures.

Great shots watch the horizon line in shot 1 the guy doesn't seem straight up and the back lines are tilted just a bit. Other than that shot 3 is amazing love that shot.

Thank you...I was shooting two guards for about 20 mins by the time I got the "perfect" shot...this guy had the perfect face (the other looked less "serious"), and this was the exact angle/look I was going for haha...worth spending the time!

Thanks very much :) And that's too bad about not being able to travel...I basically spend all my money on travelling these days (and saving for more schooling haha).

Thank you and grrrrr.....I think you're right about that. Time to re-edit...thanks for the catch.

Thank you! And yeah, I'm going to re-edit that picture, I was fooled by the line at the top (which isn't meant to be horizontal)...I'm going to re-edit it by making the soldier straight up and down...
