Been having trouble getting batteries for my 1D Mk2 series cameras here in Cambodia so I decided to pick up a little cheap back up (for less than the price of the batteries). Saw an almost brand new Canon D40 for sale SH for a great price ( and batteries no problem) Her are a few pics taken today.

Obsolete now so they say but still a very capable machine.

I don't need all the fancy features and the 10MP IQ is just fine, I take pictures and don't need video.

Use Canon 10D, 40D, 1D Mk1, 2 & Mk4 plus a 1Ds and 5D Mk2. Canon lenses (fav 24-105 f4L). Nikon D2HS and Fuji X Pro 1 & 2. Love um all :lol:

Good pick up! My first DSLR was a 20D, and even it is still quite a capable camera. Looks like you are in an environment to get some really interesting images!

I still have and use a couple of 10D's, still a useable camera. I am not one for fads and gadgets, if the machine can take a good picture (still picture) then I will continue to use it. The 10D's earned me their value +++ over and over ... :cool:

Discontinued != Obsolete.

Great pics.

Dicontinued to me does not mean obsolete..lol only when I cannot get sales from than machine do I have to replace it, then maybe it becomes obsolete. I still make sales from the 10D .. :) :)

Nice Pic with that 40D.. I've got one and a 5D classic.. Both take great pictures, when the operator does his job... lol, and my daughter takes great pics with her 10D too.

I do like the new 5DmkIII and whole line lenses..

Love seeing pictures like these taken on older cameras as it highlights that the quality is down to the skill of the photographer, not the quality of the camera. Tone in the second one looks a little flat (might be what you were going for) but the composition and subject are beautiful.

Too right. very difficult with all that smoke to get a sharp image :)

I have a 6 year old Pentax K10D....with 1000's of shutter actuation's, still as capable as when it was new of wonderful pix. I have a new Pentax DSLR and a newer Canon and they're great, but too often I think we are quick to dismiss older cameras in this digital age as incapable, compared to their newer models.

I bought a 40D two weeks ago, as a backup camera. It's a wonderful camera. Also it has the perfect size for me. It's lighter than my 1Ds but feels stronger and more pro than the newer 60D and rebel series. Image quality is very good. I also has fast accurate fokus and 6.5 pictures per sec.
