Well, if you purchase "living things" like gas, food, meals, and other necessities you can easily spend that amount. They're betting you'll carry the balances over so they can make their $$$ off interest on you. But if you pay the balance in full all the time, you win. Myself - I don't need another credit card. But it may be a good deal for others.

Yep. For those who put everything on their card and pay it off every month this is a great deal. The temptation is to spend more to meet the quota--never do that.

That promotion must have only been sent to people who don't already spend that much on their Discover cards. I didn't get the offer.

That's exactly what I do. Everything goes on the card all month long and I get cash back for those purchases. Full balance is paid by automatic withdrawal every month, so there is never any interest. My money stays in a checking account earning interest all month long, so I am getting paid from the bank and from the credit card company. It's not a fortune, but it can add up to a few hundred dollars every year.
