Obviously, film is film. I have a film camera, still. ;)

My question lies in a digital camera. What's good for B&W photography? Does it really matter, or is there truth in that a specific digital camera can yield better B&W's? Or is it more in the digital post processing technique?

Just curious...that's all. :)

I don't know if anyone here has one, but the Leica M Monochom looks interesting.

Nice thing is if you get it you won't have to buy the NIK plugin, it's supplied with the camera.

So, the camera has nothing to do with it? Digitally speaking? Noise at high iso's, etc? Just software?

I've always found that the B&Ws straight from camera are amazing from Leicas. Even the D-Lux.

I don't think anyone who is about to drop 7k on a Leica would care too much about saving a few hundreds dollars on software....:)

Pretty much.

Nothing beats Nik's Silver Efex 2. Nothing.

I may have to check out a trial version, and see how it goes.

Here's a shot that I used CS5 to create...think the Nik software might add more?

Yes, the software gives you the options to introduce film grains based on various films you want to emulate.

I have the Nik plugin but I never use it.
I've cooked up my own B/W workflow.
But I am not trying to emulate the film look.

Digtal B/W camera - obviously Leica M. You just have to own the bank, not to the bank.

For the rest of us  it is same as color pictures.

My Rebel makes good enough b/w candids. I put Zuiko 28 3.5 and it is OK for quick and dirty "street" with Rebel set to B/W.

Modern FujiFilm cameras seems to makes nice B/W.

If you want better B/W with DSLR, get FF and good prime like Zeiss.
I was looking for few days on Flickr group named something like: Street photography Monochrome. For me nothing beats 5D in digital B/W.

One thing which is huge in B/W PP compare to colors.
I'm not photoshop person, but in the Lightroom you have two bars to adjust colors.
Makes huge difference sometimes if you use them for B/W.
