$1800 for the lens almost doubles the kit price with the 6D! i hope its closer to $1200, then I will swap it out with my 24-105.

Based on Canon's latest activities, I'd say that's a dream. More like $1800/$1800.

Nice guess. Looks like you might be half right.

You just have to compare Mark I to their Mark II counterparts to get close. The 24-70 I was about $1400 seven years ago when I bought mine and I think right up until the Mark II was first available. The Mark II is $2300 now and 24-70 Mark I prices went up as a result (thus the flawed logic in comparing current pricing). They didn't give us IS but still tacked on about a grand.

The 24-70 f/4 IS can't be that high despite the IS because they lopped off some range. But it'll still be obscene.

The only way this makes sense is if it is $850ish rrp and +$600 on the 6d for a kit.

Considering Canon's recent earnings report, this latest lens and pricing announcements suggests Canon doesn't care much for reports.

Seems very clear that if Canon wants people to keep using their brand, to pay or go home. I have the 24-70 II on my to buy list, but its very difficult to justify such a lens at this cost, especially when the Nikon camp has an amazing 24-70G of their own for about $1100 cheaper.

The Tamron 24-70mm 2.8 VC is cheaper, what are Canon thinking? No wonder they aren't hitting targets!

Japan price is $1800.

Canon is really loosing touch with reality

And people KEEP comparing MSRP with street price, and this time with conversion rate to boot.

Straight from Canon, 24-105 is also priced 145000 yen. (希望小売価格:145,000円(ケース・フード付き、税別))

http://cweb.canon.jp …m/ef24-105-f4l/index.html (external link)

And this is your rumor page: (店頭予想価格は145000円前後(税込))

http://digicame-info.com …-f4l-is-usmef35mm-f2.html (external link)

So your beloved 24-105mm is MSRP'd in Japan for the exact same US$1800 too!!!

it cant be far off IMO. 70-200 F4 IS is very closely priced to 70-200 F2.8

liking the 35F2, but the price is ridiculous. No more than 500 IMO.

I'm just saying if people keep saying $1800 is insane, then stop using the conversion-rated MSRP.

It's like do you see the point if I complain about the conversion-rated MSRP of 24-70mm II is insane, which is US$2868?
