I'm just saying if people keep saying $1800 is insane, then stop using the conversion-rated MSRP.

It's like do you see the point if I complain about the conversion-rated MSRP of 24-70mm II is insane, which is US$2868?

ahh, that makes more sense. based on simple ratio math x/1800 = 2299/2868, that would put the lens priced at $1442.88, so we should expect 1399 or 1499 when it comes to america.... maybe.

I am curious to see if this ends up as a 6D kit lens. Seems it would make it to expensive. My guess is the 24-105 will become the general kit lens.

Or less, if it's truly going to replace the 24-105 which the US MSRP is $1,149.00.

The thing that's bothering all Japanese manufacturer is USD tanks like crazy, but they can't really just do straight-up currency convert the JPN MSRP to USD and call it a day, or else no one is going to buy their stuff.

I really dont think we're going to see it above $1000... I just dont see a reason to buy it over the 24-105 at $1000..

I see it more $850-900 and tacking on $600 to the kit to match the Nikon 24-85 kit on the D600 (Which is a terrible deal)

Im thinking it will come in at 1400-1600 dollar range... still dont understand this lens though... I mean where is the 135L, 35L, 100-400L replacements? This is nuts.

Do we really want them?

135L II would be $2800 at this rate
35L II would be $2200
100-400L would be $3500

From my understanding this is because Canon is being stubborn and REFUSING to produce lenses in other countries whereas Nikon has outsourced to China and Taiwan and such... The Yen's high value versus everything else is causing their prices to go astronomical on them

Maybe they're worried about QC?

That's a good point...
Maybe they should move lens manufacturing to the US. It'd probably be cheaper... :D

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

you must've missed their latest lens announcements if you think it's coming in under $1,000...and i think they've proven that they don't care if it makes sense or not...

No I havnt missed them, I think the last lens I saw that I felt made a lot of sense was the 70-200 f/2.8L IS II... That was how long ago?

Canon still lacks an APS-C normal, Canon still lacks a decent range of APS-C lenses, They lack a short macro lens, They need to update the 180mm Macro as well, The 50mm f/1.4 is an ancient troubled little lens and it needs an overhaul as well...

so what if the price is higher, if it performs excellent then yes I want one. If not then its a overpriced pile a crap lol.
