7D Shutter and Firmware question

A person says he has a 7D for sale with 4300 shutter clicks also said the latest firmware

was installed like a month ago.

I know some folks are saying you can and can't get the shutter counts on a 7D, maybe eoscount does it, I don't know.

I would like to know if you can get the shutter count (other than sending it in) and if you install firmware will that reset the count?

Thanks

EOScount gives me an accurate count with my 7D. Installing new firmware does not reset the count either.

I have never been able to get an accurate shutter count on my 7D, but I use a Mac. I believe with a PC you can.

If you have taken that few photos, then chances are good that you never reset the file name counter (rolls over after 10000), thus that will give you an accurate figure.

Thanks for the replies. Now thinking I'll buy new when I buy. What does concern me is that the new firmware was installed last month. Now its for sale.

Probably just me and I don't know when the latest firmware came out but to install it one month and sale it the next might indicate there was an issue the seller was trying to overcome. When the firmware didn't correct it, sell it.

Yes I am paranoid.

For Mac users, install google chrome browser and use IE tab extension. EOS Count will work, that is how I got shutter count on my 7d.

Yes you are paranoid, all 7d owners would have updated the firmware to the latest version, irrespective of whether they were keeping it or selling it

I think that you have to consider if it's a significant savings over buying new and not the firmware upgrade.

I agree, you are being paranoid. If I were selling my 7D the first thing I would do is make sure I have the latest firmware to make it more attractive to a potential buyer.

It seems you are looking for an excuse not to buy used. Here's another one: "The seller didn't upgrade to the latest firmware. He probably didn't take very good care of his camera because he couldn't be bothered to upgrade the firmware." ;)

Those don't work for the Canon 7D. EOScount does work. http://eoscount.com/ (external link)

So am I about these things; but my 7D was a July 2012 job and it has 6,000 clicks on it and I updated the firmware. It didn't effect the click count. Also anyone who looks after their Camera would take this upgrade as it improves the camera's features/ Many I don't personally care about but there are some good one. SO I would not worry on that score. Also as a prospective buyer I would like to see that the camera could 'take' the latest firmware. As that in itself is a good test all is well!

The new Firmware 2.0 increases the RAW buffer capacity by a decent amount. That alone is worth the free update.
