Having a T2i and a 60d, I gotta say I like the 60d better. It just feels better in the hand and the UI of it is better. From CLP the 60d can be had @ $640 +tax if applicable. That's a good price.

I don't understand why you would want a 7d, you said you don't shoot sports?

Just curious ?

The viewfinder - it gives 100% view. I truly hate getting a different composition/framing in my image from what I see at 95-96%. Also, while I'm ok with the size of the Rebels, I think I'd like the bigger body a little bit more. Unfortunately, there are no brick & mortar camera stores here anymore, so I can't even go get a feel for them.

If steroids are illegal for athletes, should PS be illegal for models?
Digital - 50D, 20D IR Conv, 9 Lenses from 8mm to 300mm
Analog - Mamiya RB67 Pro-SD, Canon A-1, Nikon F4S, YashicaMat 124G, Rollei 35S, QL17 GIII, Zeiss Ikon Ikoflex 1st Version, and and entire room full of lenses and other stuff

You'd love the 7d. My wife has the t3 but loves my 7d for handling. Heavy though ;)

There are more reasons to want a 7D than just for sports. They're built tougher than a Rebel with their magnesium alloy bodies and weather sealing. Better auto focus points. The higher FPS are also good for wide-life photography. I started with a T2i and got the 7D for the points I mentioned above. I knew the image quality would be comparable so that wasn't a reason for my decision. I just wanted a stouter camera. I still have the T2i and use it quite often. My only concern with getting the 7D was the size since I didn't get to hold one prior to purchasing. I'm a small person with small hands but the size or weight don't bother me at all. YMMV :)

Not sure how current those prices are in that thread, but if I can get a 7D for $640, I'll be an owner for sure! I just have to sell off some stuff, and I'll be calling them. Freakin' awesome!

I went from the 350D to the 40D and loved it. If you can go up to a 50 or 60D you'll be quite happy.

I agree with the recommendations for the 60D. As most people said, the ergonomics and controls of the 60D are much better than any of the Rebels. What surprises me is that nobody has mentioned the AF system of the 60D. It is hugely better than any of the Rebels.

Rebels: 9 AF points, 1 f/2.8 sensitive cross-type at the center.
60D: 9 AF Points ALL cross-type, 1 f/2.8 DUAL cross (X+) at the center.

I was using a T1i Rebel when I bought the 60D. The AF system on the 60D is noticeable better. It is not in the same league as the 7D, but it has never let me down. When I miss focus, it is my fault.

The 50D is a formidable camera. I have shot with it along side my 1DM3 for several years and it has done quite well. If you don't care about video, its something to consider. The 60D went to a more compact body, which I didn't care for.

T4i's auto focus is the same as 60D.

I just checked the specs. You are right as rain. Thanks for updating my aging brain. T4i AF system is identical to 60D. That is a very big improvement for the Rebel line.

I don't know about that price but the "loyalty" program is the way to go depending on the model

save up for a 7D. Totally awesome camera! Deals pop up once in a while. I scored mine here from a user for $1k. WITH the battery grip!

I went from a 450d to a 60d and am thrilled. Much better Iso and after using a body with duel dials and top LCD, I could never go back. I think the dials and LCD alone, plus the better viewfinder make a 60d perfect for you. I got it for sports because frankly I don't NEED a 7d and I am putting the saved money toward a ff body in near future. You will be very pleased with a 60d.

I went from a 350d to a 60d, I find the build and external controls much improved and the AF is much better, especially subject tracking which was better than I expected. The faster burst rate and deeper buffer also come in handy. The benefit of live view means different things to different people but I find it invaluable when using legacy lenses as you can zoom in to 100% and achieve perfect focus using these old manual lenses, focusing manual glass on the 350d was an unpleasant experience.

I find the metering to be superior overall although in bright sunlight it can have a tendency to under or over expose as the metering is related to the focus point so if you focus over an unusually bright or dark part in an image it can throw the entire scene out, I suppose I would say the evaluative metering was too much like spot metering for it's own good sometimes but then again on other occasions I have been amazed at how well it has coped with complex situations with no input required.

I actually find low ISO shots to be slightly nosier than the 350d especially when shooting RAW but the resolution increase is so great that it's seldom noticeable in prints etc. At the other end of the ISO scale, particularly 800 upwards the 60d is much better and of course goes well beyond the 1600 limit of the 350d
