First time for me using my new (to me) 200 f/2.8 II and I have to say that I'm impressed so far. AF was VERY fast, as good as any Canon glass I've owned including my 70-200 MKII and 300 f/2.8. I should add that I used it with a 1.4x tc in horrific conditions (25 mph winds with rain, temps around 40) and it did not let me down. It was one of those games where you couldn't keep the camera steady even if you could feel your fingers!

I loved going back to shooting a prime for sports, just feels so much more natural to me. In any case, here are my first sports samples with it. No MA done yet so I suspect its going to get even better....

All exif intact, shot with Canon 1D MkIII and Canon 200mm f/2.8 with Canon 1.4x tc. These are all handheld. Crit always welcome.

BTW, we wound up winning the tourney despite the weather, very proud of the boys!

Nice set Scott. It's a lot harder shooting this age then college kids right.;) Really surprised you like this combo better then the 70-200 II. Good to see you posting again

Thanks very much guys, I appreciate your kindness. Theron, I don't know that I truly "prefer" it over the zoom from a versatility pov, but the IQ seems to be on par and I like the handling of the smaller prime. It's a terrible habit, but I think I get lazy with the zoom at times and it hurts my images. The other thing I like is that I'd be more likely to use the little prime as a walk around if I wanted some reach where the larger white zoom would just get too much attention. Who knows, lenses are a fickle mistress and I seem to change them almost as often as my boxers!

Nice work, loving the kids' action. Shame about the 'bits' in #7, but a good shot nonetheless.

Nice set Scott. Sharp images as is the norm with your work. I am assuming the ball found it's way in to the goal on #7. Good to see you are still shooting!

Thanks again everyone. Yeah, its great to be out shooting some sport again. I didn't forget how much I hated outdoor soccer in late fall though!!! I'll take 20's and snow over 40's and rain anyday. I swear, its colder in the 40's!

Mark, he did find the net in #7 but it was a little cheesy. He didn't like it all when I told him that!

You want to come and shoot in the UK then! First evening match after the clocks went back, so cold I caught a chill, despite loads of layers and gloves! And it wasn't raining.;)
