Is there 2 different lens in the 100mm? a telephoto/macro and just a macro?

I seen on acouple of threads that one asked if its good for portraits too?

I am hoping ( and i say hoping) to find one to buy ( used) for my xmas present to myself..

Canon do there standard 100mm macro lens and the more expensive L 100mm. They are great for Portraits.

They currently make three lenses in 100mm:

• 100mm f/2.8 macro
• 100mm f/2.8L IS macro
• 100mm f/2 (not macro)

They're all great for portraits, with the f/2 able to give slightly shallower depth of field, and to allow twice as much light to enter for lower light environments.

Just an FYI, while I would love to have the L, for the build and hybrid IS, the non-L 100mm macro is tack sharp and one of the best bang for the buck lenses out there.

If you can afford it get the 100L I plan on having this lens forever! It is the lens I alway grab first when going out to shoot, second being the 35L and together they are just awesome!
