I have a Yongnuo yn565ex and when I use e-ttl a flash fires but the output is no where near correct. It's looks like it doesn't even fire when you look at the pictures, but a flash does fire and the laser beam does display before firing. The flash fires on Manual most of the time with out a problem but I have ran into a few times where it has done the same thing. I am using eneloop batteries to power it with full charge. The flash is less than one year old but if there is an easy known fix I would like to try it before having to send it off to China. Thanks for any help in advance

make sure you don't have the flash set to 1/128.

I'm not impressed with this flash either so I guess we get what we pay for here.

He stated that he is using eTTL. You cannot set the manual power adjustment in that mode.
You can set Flash Exposure Compensation. (FEC) FEC can be set on both the camera and flash. Check both. If you are not seeing any flash it is probably not FEC though.

Hi

Not sure if it helps, but here's the link to a thread that I started when I had a similar problem. I would get massive variation in exposures. The flash would fire every time, but sometimes at not enough power to even register in the exposed shot, and sometimes the shot was massively blown out. In the meantime, I've bought a YN-468II to use. The YN-565 has been sent back to the seller and I'm awaiting the replacement.

I think this must be a fairly common fault.

mine seems to be in the same problem, going to send it off tomorrow. How much did it cost to ship it to china?

Fortunately for me (and I hope you have the same), I only had to pay local postage. I'm In the UK and bought from a 'UK Seller' on e bay. They did ask me to pay return shipping from China which was only £10. I think that's about $15 or so.

Tying this across to your other thread on the topic https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1233769 (Post 11 et seq), this would seem to confirm my suspicions that your "UK Seller" wasn't actually in the UK at all, but in HK. Is that your reading of the subsequent events (ie post back to you from China)?

Hi Whortleberry. I will post an update to the other thread once the flash is safely back in my hands, but everything seems to be going well so far (touch wood).

Hitechproduct have been fairly helpful throughout. Communicating hasn't always been the easiest, but we seem to have got there in the end. I posted the item back to them at a UK address (not the same one that it was sent from), but they have requested that I pay postage back from China for £10 which seems reasonable to me. In total, I will have paid £17 in postage.

Hopefully the new flash should be the updated design and I shouldn't have any more issues. I have since bought YN-468II as a backup and that seems to be working well (ordered from Chantylesee).

It appears that Hitechproduct are not in the UK as you thought, but they have provided a replacement product without me paying international shipping outward. I'm happy with the service they've provided.

I wonder if I perhaps gave slightly the wrong impression initially. I wasn't implying that these "UK Sellers" were necessarily dishonest in their dealings, just that the blurb in a lot of the listings (and HiTechProducts are far from the only ones doing this) is potentially misleading. However, if they have provided you with an acceptable service then that's great. Being argumentative, they couldn't legally insist on you paying the return postage (as they purport to be a business seller based in the UK they are subject to UK Distance Selling regulations) but as a tracked package to China outbound from you would have cost £19 at least, it's hardly worth arguing about. Plus the time lag getting responses while you argued over who-paid-what would have meant more delays - just further annoyance! All's well that ends well.

Yes, I too have bought from Chantelysee (what a weird name!) and found them reliable, UK based, holding stock in the UK and providing a full 12 month UK warranty.

*****update********

Well I just received my flash back from china, photo gadget told me they installed a new capacitor and installed the new pc board. When i opened the box they sent me a brand new flash with a new pouch and stand still in the plastic :) so I can't say too much negative except the fact it cost $44 to insure it and ship it there and the 2 months to the day that it took to get it back.
