Hey guys,

I'm currently looking around for a good pack/head system. I would like to get one that is not too expensive, but won't leave me wanting to upgrade to something better right away. I plan to use it mostly on location.

I've always been drawn to paul buff products because of their price/performance ration, but the fact that they are not multi-voltage puts me off. I currently study in the US, but regularly go back to the Philippines, where I'm from. The problem is that the voltage in the Philippines is 220v as opposed to the 110v used here. I could buy the 220v version from the Australian distributer, but then it would be a problem using them here in the US.

Do any of you have recommendation for something that would suite my needs?

Have you considered a transformer to convert voltages either up or down? Will add weight and additional cost but might open up a world of possibilities in some used equipment.

FWIW, I've been a Speedotron user for 30 years and they have been stone reliable.

My answer for most photography questions: "it depends...'

Speedotron is very powerful and reliable. I have a 4 heads system and love it.

Elinchrom is a good system and is sold in Manila. So service wouldn't be impossible. The Quadra pack in particular is quite easy to use and bring with you just about anywhere.
