Since oil, itself, is pretty noxious, a lot of folks go with a similar 'looking' substance. Shortening with food color (which is kinda what that shot looks like), or heavy chocolate syrup.

I, too, seriously doubt that the photo was made with crude oil.

Try any diesel truck repair place that services Detroit Diesel engines, the oil that comes out of them after a few thousand miles is very black! It is the suspended soot that turns it black.

and the model dies a horrible slow painful death, after being poisoned through skin absorption by so many carcinogens at once...

Now, some of the pretty old ladies around here swear by the raw crude from the well on their land for keeping their faces so beautiful for so long...runs diesel engines straight out of the well(!), but too much sulfur to do that for long...

What to use is dark fudge...even the cleanup is too much fun!

What about black non-toxic paint like this? http://www.amazon.com …ywords=black+gallon+paint (external link)
You can thin it with water or add black powder paint to thicken it.

Remember that used oil contains all sorts of nasty long chain hydro carbons created during combustion, many are very carcinogenic.

Limited exposure doing an oil change every year is unlikely to be harmful, but prolonged exposure can be.

Also remember that it gets everywhere!
Used oil is able to teleport itself on to any tools, equipment and clothing with in the immediate area. direct contact isn't required.

So long and thanks for all the flash
