Hey guys, finally pulled my gear again and decided to give a long exposures a whirl. the moon was pretty bright and drowned out a lot of the stars, it was just to nice of a night not to go out an shoot. and feedback is much appreciated.

1. can't decide if I love or hate this shot.

The skies in the moon shots are pretty nice. Not much of interest in the foreground though.

The star shots are way too dark.

I'm no expert at these kind of shots, but it would help out a lot if you posted the EXIF data so we can see how you shot these.

you posted them overnight for a good part of the US so patience is probably a good thing. Sorry but these all seem soft to me. It would be helpful to have a foreground subject thats sharp to contrast the sky blur you get from a long exposure.

I agree what others have said...there's just no real subject to these. Long exposure shots should show motion vs. not. You need a static object that is highlighted by blurred surroundings. Clouds, water, tail/headlights, etc, all work well. A long exposure tree is still just a tree. Watch your highlights so they don't get blown out and use a sturdy tripod to keep the shots sharp. Also, a long exposure shouldn't mean dark and underexposed. Hope that helps and keep shooting!

Not bad, but nothing spectacular, IMO. Just keep playing around and trying different settings. Definitely get that long exposure noise reduction on - will help quite a bit and also get rid of those hot pixels you have. Takes twice as long, but worth the wait, IMO. To also help with the clarity, make sure your tripod is firm as can be and flip on the mirror lockup if you're not already doing that.

Should be PLENTY of stuff to shoot up in Maine at your location. Head up towards Acadia or something away from any light pollution.
