This is a common problem I keep having when I run Adobe CS2. The screen gets these black lines and usually the 2nd or 3rd time CS2 is run after a reboot.

The laptop runs on 1GB of RAM.

Anyone else have this problem or know what is causing this?

I've seen similar artifacts, but they've always been temporary. Are yours entirely static, or do they come and go? Does this only occur when you open PS, or other memory intensive apps too? Does it go away as soon as you close PS, or is Windows still affected until you reboot? Have you tried minimizing/closing PS, clicking on the Windows desktop, and pressing F5 for a screen refresh?

You might check to see if there are updates for your video drivers.

The screen refresh rates may needs adjustments, its not keeping up with speed things are happening, try scrolling huge amounts of thumbnails ,similar can happen.
I must point out I'm not 100% about this , but often power hungry programs don't only need lots of ram but also decent video/grafics cards and set up correctly to function at there best,

I,m sure someone on here would advise what settings work best with your type of laptop, advise make etc, and see what comes back on here.

best of luck

Looks like video memory corruption. This can be due to some problems with the way PS is interacting with your video card. The first step is to go to the Display Properties control panel (right click on your desktop, or via Control Panels), select the "Settings" tab, click on the "Advanced" button, select the "Troubleshoot" tab. You will see a slider control for "Hardware acceleration" set on "Full". Move it one notch down and see if that fixes it.

If the change slows down your laptop too much, or doesn't fix it, then it may be something more serious, like a crappy video driver version. Go to the vendors web site and find the correct driver update rather than auto update -- it's safer for drivers.

(BTW this is why I use a Mac for photo editing now... :-) )

The black lines are not static. They roll through the screen when I click on a snap.

Minimizing does not help. As soon as PS2 or Bridge or even RSE comes on the screen, the black lines come back.

Does not happen in any other app - but then these are probably my most memory intensive programs.

Not tried F5 - will do the next time it comes up. Interestingly, have been waiting since yesterday afternoon for these black lines to show up - but no, when I have some potential solutions to try out, they dont show up :) Well, not something to complain about - maybe my NY present!!

Wouldn't hurt to maybe try updating your video card drivers. Do you know whats in your computer?

I had this problem, I changed my video card driver to a newer version and it has been fine since. Good luck!
