Hello, I've been trying to capture swallows in flight but that proved too hard, so I've decided to go with insects flying. Here's a couple of examples taken with my 7d and 100 f2.8, nothing but natural light.

Well done, lovely captures.

This is my best in-flight shot.

What a great idea for a thread and some great images so far. Unfortunately I have exactly one flying insect to share...

Here are a few of mine.

This is a snipe fly (I think), aiming for a tiny fly on the surface of my garden pond, frozen by a pair of Speedlites set to low power for a short flash.

Here's a hoverfly, taken with the 180L and again frozen by flash. It's actually a 2-shot focus stack.

Common Darter.

Male Southern Hawker - this is also a 2-shot focus stack as he was hovering.

Mark.

Yes very cool shots, I like the fact that you don't know what you've captured untill after you've released the shutter button, not much time to compose when you're working in thousandths of a second :)

Not on a par with you guys photographically, I'm afraid, but I think these shots of Pennsylvanian Leatherwings launching into flight are interesting, and I thought I'd share. They do seem to enjoy flipping into action. . .
