Which one of the versions will be problem free for a 7D? I know the 1 gives some errors from time to time and will need rechipping...
How does V2 work on the 7D? any issues?

The II version was made mainly to give Nikon users an in-lens motor (the original used the body's screw-drive), so it's a bit of a pointless update in Canonland. Tokina says the second version has 'improved coatings', but that's most likely marketing hype. Save some cash and get the first version; neither needs re-chipping, and I've used mine on a 7D several times without issue. 50D | 5D | Tokina 12-24 f/4 | 24-85 f/3.5-4.5 | 24-105 f/4L | 50 f/1.8 | 70-200 f/4L | Metz 50 AF-1

My understanding is that both the 11-16 II and the 12-24 II got the improved coatings which reduce flair considerably. Canon 7D/350D, Σ17-50/2.8 OS, 18-55IS, 24-105/4 L IS, Σ30/1.4 EX, 50/1.8, C50/1.4, 55-250IS, 60/2.8, 70-200/4 L IS, 85/1.8, 100/2.8 IS L, 135/2 L 580EX II, 430EX II * 2, 270EX II.

Due good zoom range it is excellent outdoor walk around lens. 11-16 will be good for indoor as is one stop faster. ss.manak
