Just got power back here in central NJ last night after the storm hit Monday. What a mess on the Jersey Shore. Got these sequenced shots last week at the Conowingo Dam in MD. Unfortunately a very cloudy day and had my ISO at 800 for these. Please enjoy!

Great captures! The wingspan photo (last one) highlights the size of the bird well!

Wonderful shots. Do folks seed the river with dead fish? It looks like the eagle is zeroing in on a floater ;)

Thx guys! Ian, I believe some of the fish get spit out of the dam during power generation a little less wiggly then some.....:)

Those are beautiful! We're about an hour and a half from the dam and would like to try it. May I ask which lens you used and where you took them from? I know there's a concrete deck to shoot from, but I don't know much else about the site.

Judy,

Here's link that can give you some additional info.

http://www.harfordbirdclub.org/conowingo.html (external link)

I use a 500mm with a 1.4x attached, but many folks are there with 300s and 400s. Much less than that will really limit the shots since the eagles are a bit off the shore. Also, the best time to go, based on the regulars there, is when the dam is producing electricity and the water is flowing thru the turbines. This is published on a local hotline you can dial, but I think its usually in the AM. Once the turbines are turned off, the opportunities for pics really subsides. Hope this helps!

Baiting the Eagles is kind of frowned upon by the locals. The fish get stunned when they go through the turbines and come out the other side floating down the river...easy pickings for the Eagles. They blast a horn several times before they open up any of the gates to warn boaters and shore fisherman that the water level is going to rise because water is passing through the dam....the Eagles know what the horn means and come flying in from every direction....amazing site to see.

Excellent fishing series....I've been up there many times but only captured one sequence I was happy with. A lot harder than it looks from your images.

Thx Duane, the compliment means a lot coming from you! Big fan of your eagles and the stories that go along.
