Detail showing oxide coated filament (cathode - light grey loops; emits electrons when hot), tensioning springs to counter expansion when filament is hot, top mica insulator and one of the plates (anode; dark grey flattened metal cylinder that straight parts of filament go into; collects electrons emitted by filament): IMAGE LINK: https://photos.smugmug.com …0filament-XL.jpg&lb=1&s=ANon-macro image of the same type of tube in operation; for scale it is about 5"/125mm tall:IMAGE LINK: https://photos.smugmug.com …/IMG_8040-XL.jpg&lb=1&s=A -Pat Smugmug site: http://pmanning.smugmug.com/

Cubdriver Goldmember More info | Dec 13, 2016 18:07 | #1154 The hardware one reminds me of these that I took a few months ago. It's a big box of old carbon-composition resistors, and while the photos were taken with my iPhone, I'd call them macro as I pretty much stuck the thing into the box among the parts. (As frustrating as the phone is to use compared to the DSLR, what with it not necessarily focusing where I want it to, not taking the picture till it wants to as opposed to when I hit the button and just lacking the shutter speed/aperture/focus controls the DSLR has, there are some things it excels at - like fitting places the camera physically can't.) Old resistors: ![]() ![]() -Pat I can still remember the very un-politically correct saying I learned in high school radio shop that aided in knowing the sequence the color code values stood for as resisters. I had radio shop 1962 last. Gene - My Photo Gallery ||
