My darn camera...or me??

My Canon EOS 300d is being a BizzNitch just to put it lightly...either that or it's just me and my frustration getting the better of me!!!

I have a few problems...someone please help

I tried shooting indoors today, i wanted to use a fast shutter speed, and i wanted the easy way out so i clicked it over to action, but it gave me a slow shutter??? And it wouldn't use continuous shooting! Also the flash didn't pop up? Im not sure whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy....

Same time...i wanted ISO400 for this shot too, so i tried getting it WITH it still on the action setting, why didn't it work? I clicked and clicked ISO but nooo nothing happened! So then i put it into TV mode and all that crap and did it the manual way...but i still want that convenience for quick shots like what i was doing.

Another one...
How the heck can you pop your internal flash up? I know it does it auto when you need the extra light, but what if i already want it up and i don't NEEd it up?

Now that i have nagged...i will go away

Try Av and open up your f as much as you can. Increase the ISO to 800 or above at the same time. Flash might help too.

There should be a button with a flash symbol on it. Press it.

Sports mode is a aouto mode it will choose the iso for you.

The 300D disables the internal flash and fixes the ISO at 400 in "Action" or "Sports" mode. MALI's advice is accurate. Set the control to Av, use the front wheel to open the aperture up as much as possible (lowest f/stop number) and manually set the ISO to 400 or 800 as a start. See what shutter speeds you are getting and go from there.

If you decide you still need flash, I'd stay in the same mode, but lower the ISO to 200 or 400 at the most, press the flash button to pop it up and go from there. The camera should compensate fairly well with the flash output.

If you use the flash in AV mode, it will probably lower the shutter speed, the camera will want to do "fill flash". Try using TV, and open your f-stop wide open.
That camera is supposed to get good results with ISO 800, try it out.

You can't manually pop the flash or change the ISO setting in any of the basic modes, you have to be in the creative modes(P, TV, AV, M) to do this.

If your 300D is misbehaving smack it with the manual that came with it.

As mentioned, the auto modes don't give you much control. You seem to know what you wanted so move to a mode that allows you to set the camera yourself - Av, Tv, M. You just have to push the little flash button to get it to pop up.

I thought owning a SLR meant taking better pivtures and learning photogrpahyIe Manual Mode.....I love manual mode, it's the only mode I shoot in, personly what I think** is that if people want a AUTO camera get a P&S, Why get a SLR and put it in Auto etc? just my opinon

Not that I've had the same problems as you, Del, but I didn't know what that little button was with a flash symbol on it until one day, I pressed it. And I read the manual. Now I just put my 550EX on the camera when I can. It fixes most problems. I do have trouble taking pictures recently with my 10D in the dark. I bought one of those "torch" lights, it's a little flash light on a keychain-like thing. That helps, believe it or not.

I've had a few similar issues with my 20D when the flash wouldn't pop up automatically or it can't seem to focus or set the exposure. The advice above is good I think.

SLR's generally have a faster shutter responce than P&S's. So while shooting their childs sporting event they don't have to press the shutter release and wait.

As for M mode, if your just turing the dials to center the exposure point your doing the same thing that would happen in Av or Tv.

Thanks for the info, this is exactly what i suspected, i just thought there might be an easier way out haha!

As for my flash, i pressed the button numerous amounts of times and it doesn't work, my camera IS second hand though so maybe the thing is broken! DAMMIT! That peeves me now....

ACDC - i use manual settings, it's all i really use...BUT like i said i wanted the easy way out as this photo was a quick point n shoot one, there was no artistic measures to it so i didn't feel it necessary to click around for a while to use manual settings. I just wanted a quick easy way out to point and shoot. I use my camera soley for artistic work, but SOMETIMES i like to get photo's of my pets when they are being retarded (LOL)

So i felt it necessary and easier to grab my camera go "Click" with action and then bobs ya uncle! But didn't work the way i wanted it too anyway, and i missed my shot because it decided to be slow!!

I shall go back to the drawing board and wait for the dogs do be silly again - it's just a bit hard when you have to mess around with the manual settings when what is happening is right then n there.

Should have explained myself better...didn't think it was necessary but hpoe you understand now!
