Two photos of sigma 500mm 4.5- Which is older?

Im looking at buying one of these but I cant find any information. since they are both second hand copies - there are no original receipts...

Was wondering if anyone cane see which is older?? If so explain why...

They are both older. The latest has a DG designation. Out of the two, I would pick the one with gold letters to be the newer one.

Thanks, to me also the silver lining ( at focal) rings a bell as an older version?

That's my guess. Of course, just makes sure the focus is spot on. Sigma isn't known for spot on focus. :)

:) :) have seen samples from both at 6.3 and 5.6 looks too good on a d300 - don't know if it has focus adjust?

I couldn't say in fact, but they are both of nearly the same era, and fantastic quality.
The DG version was no change at all for this lens really, it serves only to let you know it was newer! :-)

I suspect both of these are newer than mine was.

As long as it says "EX" and looks like this lens, you've got a good one. The one to avoid, was the "pre-EX" which had similar specs and size, but only had "APO" label.
That one did not have HSM focus motor, and would not work with most new Canon bodies.

As I said, both of those in the images are good.
