A couple of my son, Jack, watching Peppa Pig on the iPad while hiding under our duvet.

I managed to sneak the first photograph without him noticing.

Then a few seconds later ...

Busted!

With him shouting "NO PHOTO!" at me.

The light from what appears to be an iPad falls very nicely on your subject. Nice expression in the first photo and I love the eyes in the second photo.

Great shots...The lighting is exquisite!...May I assume that this lighting was serendipitous in nature and completely unplanned?

Yes, the shots were completely unplanned. Jack likes hiding under our duvet and on this occasion he was also watching Peppa Pig on the iPad. I popped downstairs to get my camera and fortunately he hadn't moved by the time I got back to the bedroom. I managed to get one quick snap of him concentrating then, a few seconds later, the picture of him once he had spotted me.

The lighting in the raw files was flatter than in the images you see here. The room lighting from above the duvet could be seen under the duvet and this was only slightly darker than the area around Jack's face that was being lit by the iPad. In post, I brought down the brightness of the surrounding duvet, which also brought out the orange colour more. I then emphasised the lighting on Jack from the iPad as that was what I had in mind when I took the shots. Basically increasing the contrast in the scene so your eyes goes directly to Jack.

Wow! Love these shots! It's so hard to catch moments like this with kids. Every time I see my kid doing something that would make an amazing shot, I go grab the Camera (which is usually out and ready to go) and it's already too late. Instead of saying "no photo" just likes to give me this really cheesy grin with his eyes basically closed though.

Thanks for the info:)...Your quick thinking before the shot, and post processing afterwards, to fulfill your artistic vision, really paid off with these great shots...Print and hang that first one!

I know what you mean about the cheesy grin. I get that a lot from my daughter Maisie (Nearly 4).

No problem and thank you for the kind words. I make a photo book of the kids each Christmas which I give to the grandparents so I'm sure these will make it into a page or two.

Hi hope you can help we would really like to use this image in a presentation but would need a larger file size. Is that something you would be happy to do ? It will be an internal meeting and not in the public domain

If you could let me know

Many Thanks
