Color or B&W (2 shots)

I am having a hard time deciding on these two shots whether they should be color or black and white. What do you guys & gals think?

IMO I like the first one in color, the B&W makes me think he's trapped or locked up LOL The second image, I prefer in B&W.

I agree with charephoto - first in color and second in B&W. I'm not a huge fan of most B&W (your conversions look good) but the colors in the second just don't seem to blend well. Love the expressions there though.

Thanks guys. I feel like the 1st shot has a completely different vibe between color and b&w which is why I did both. For the second shot, I tried in black and white because the background became a little less distracting.

The polls seem to favor the B&W of the first shot though. Second shot is almost split.

I voted for Shot 1 B&W and Shot 2 color.

Shot 1 -
The BG is completely blown out and distracting in the color version. The B&W reduces that distraction for me. I also think it brings out contrast in the kids face and has that dramatic feel B&W images are known for. This is why I voted B&W on this one (as have most others, apparently).

Shot 2 -
This looks like a family snapshot type of image, and the B&W doesn't add anything to it - just takes out the color. The little ladies are wearing some colorful dresses and the cheery happy feeling that you get from looking at the color version simply isn't there in the B&W version. So I vote for color on this one.
