When using my expo disk I shoot into the ambient light.

I have trouble gathering white balance when I shoot indoors in places with full window front.

But if I shoot at the indoor light would I have to redo the WB when the light changes?

So say I'm shooting and shoot when it's bright outside and then it becomes dark outside. do I need to redo?

An Expo Disk. The biggest waste of money I ever spent.

1Dx - 5DIII - 40D - Canon 24-70LII, 100L macro, 135L, 16-35L, 70-200 f4 and 100-400L lenses

- "Very good" is the enemy of "great." Sometimes we confuse the two.

I'm not a fan of the expodisk either. But the short answer to your question is yes, every time the light changes the color is different so yes. Are you shooting raw?

Yes I am shooting raw. I got an excellent price so I can't complain but I thought it'd make processing easier. I struggle indoors with fluorescent lights and daylight streaming in big windows

Some flourescent light isnt full spectrum so getting a true balance may be difficult if not impossible, especially if you have older tubes that cycle. An expodisc also wont let you balance two different light sources, as its impossible to do. You can pick a compromise, but its not a balance.

if you're shooting RAW just adjust it in PS camera raw or whatever image processing software you are using

In my gym we have the daylight flourescents. I've tried setting it for daylight (given the window and "daylight bulbs") and it was too yellow. Setting for flourescents was too blue. When I posted pics here everyone told me to buy an expodisk, but sounds like it might still be a problem.
But what can I do aside from edit each photo by itself?

If light outside is always changing wont that mean different edit for each pic?

daylight fluorescent lights are not always that close to actual daylight. Like I pointed out earlier, if you have two light sources of differing colors getting a single white balance is impossible. You have to either select a middle ground or chose one or another, whichever is dominant. As for outside, you dont have to constantly change, only periodically as it gets darker. Another consideration since you are shooting raw, canon's AWB does a decent job in natural light, less so under artificial sources. Outside you can use AWB and tweak the WB in your .jpg conversion..

IMO, the expodisk is a great tool when used correctly. It doesn't work in all circumstances but it can help to add a point of reference.

Thanks all for the help and aside from the indoors/ windows situation I think it might help me indoors some otherwise. I seem to do ok outside. I def cant complain for the price.

The ExpoDisk won't "create" a good White Balance, although you can use it to set a Custom White Balance or a reference for a Raw processor. But it's up to you to determine what's "right" for your particular setting/venue.

If you're shooting jpgs. If you're shooting Raw the camera WB is entirely irrelevant and the "As Shot" might be a help or a crutch for people who don't trust their own editing ability, but no more.

Mixed lighting, artificial + natural is always going to be problematic and will need more than superficial editing. The goal is always to create (emphasis on "create") an attractive image, which is not necessarily an accurate image.
