Here's more from this weekend's competition which served as national championships and World Cup team selection.
This was my first time shooting this sport and at this location. There is a definite need for fast glass and high ISO capable bodies. My MkIIn did okay with the 135L (f2.0) and my 50mm f1.8, but sure could have used a 300mm f2.8. Might be time to be thinking about a MkIII upgrade as well. ($$$$$!) I did use my 400mm f5.6, but it was hard. The 135mm and 50mm gave me more light, but then I had to be closer to the skaters and pan very quickly. These skaters MOVE!
Shani Davis again smoked the competition in the 3,000 meter race beating the next best skater by 3 seconds.
Heather Richardson won all 5 of her races, breaking the track record in the 1,000.
Wish I knew the names of these skaters, but I did post these on Facebook and they are getting passed around.
The last race was a $10/skater, winner take all, mass start. Honestly, it was the best race of the weekend!
