$900 for a (relatively) slow 35mm prime, with no weather sealing or anything else?! What is Canon smoking?

And at $1,800 it puts the f/4 pretty close to the f/2.8mkII. It sounds more and more like the end of the 24-105. The 8 blade aperture on the 35 will produce nicer more rounded highlights than the pentagonal shaped ones the old 5 blade version gave. At $900 though I am glad I have a 35L!!

Yyyyyeeeah, I'd love an updated 1st party 35, but I'm not paying just shy of a grand for it. Especially not if I can get a Sigma 30mm for half of that, and it's f/1.4.

It goes right there with the 24 and 28 IS USMs, sticking IS in wide primes for videographers. All fine and good but jeez, if you're going to update the line could you throw a bone in there for the stills shooters?

I wonder what the price will be here in UK..and how will it compare to Sigma 35/1.4
As for the IS, I'd welcome it on my lenses... I am eventually planning to go FF and 35mm is my most used FOV by far. Coming from Pentax (in camera SR/IS) I have to say many stills photographers don't realize just how useful the stabilization is even at those focal lengths.

Probably around the £1299 range id be guessing for the 24-70, no wonder Canon aren't hitting targets!

I hope it's not the end of the 24-105, until they release a 24-105 Mk II.

The 24-105 is a fine lens, arguably sharper than the 24-70 Mk I. Fix its bokeh, update the optics to the standard of the newest generation of lenses, and it'd be a fantastic general walk-around lens.

All Nikon needs is an updated 35mm f/2 AF-S....

Really, The 24 and 28 are good little lenses, but they're rediculously expensive, and this just looks to be continuing the trend...

The plus side is its making it financially more and more viable for me to sell my crap and jump to Nikon because Canon doesnt seem to be making anything I want and can actually buy...Just saying

Ah stop complaining, freaking Leica 35 F/2 is $3000 lol and has no IS or AF! $900 isnt so bad for a 35 f/2 with USM and 4 STOP IS! Think of the low light that can be had egad!

The Leica is also a solid machined work of hand-crafted art that will last 50-60 years easily

The Canon is spit out of a factory and might not last 5 or 6

I've never once felt I needed IS on my 50mm f/1.4, and I frequently shoot that at f/2 or f/2.8. I can't imagine a situation where I would need it at 35mm f/2. But again, as someone who shoots stills these lenses aren't for me, they're for videographers. They're the ones that are going to benefit the most from IS in a wide lens.

So like I said, it would just be smarter for me to get the Sig 30 1.4. Maybe there are some people shooting stills who would really want IS on a wide prime, bully for them if they want to lay out that much scratch, but I don't think that's going to be most people.
