Yeah, $900.. Wow.. just wow at that..

my jaw dropped, I didnt expect it to be $900

So you can have the 35mm f/2 IS for $850 or pay $50 more for an extra stop of light... Hmn... Kinda no brainer

But if you're shooting still subject, that 4 stops IS will be very very handy compare to the extra stop...plus that $50 can buy a few starbucks :)

I hope the new 35 f2 IS IQ is improved over the current 35 f2.

True, and its a little shorter... but... f/1.4 is f/1.4.. Could be useful to isolate stuff... Also i ponder if it wont have really REALLY good bokeh and such to it...

That said the Canon focuses closer, Thats always useful...

As for improved, Id imagine it is

I think the decider is whether Sigma can REALLY get it right this time and have accurate and consistent AF.

I hope they succeed, but my gut feeling tells me that it will never be as good as a Canon ;)

Yep same here, if Sigma hasn't improved on af consistency I'll go for the Canon. If Sigma has succeeded ( which I doubt, at least not to the level of Canon USM) it would be a really tough choice between the two.

Anyway I still think I would go for the Canon and IS because of the versatility it offers. I like having the ability to take hand held pictures of water movements like water falls, tide coming in, at slow shutter speeds. I also like it for portraiture when it's dark, the background won't have motion blur in it when the subject is flash lit. IS is also really nice indoors in dim light. It's nice to get the ambient light presenting the whole mood in a scene while the subject in front is flash lit.

At Canon's ridiculous price people might as well buy the new Sigma f/1.4. That thing looks like it's even better built than the Canon 35mm f/1.4 L.

Kenji,
For the stuff you shoot why not consider a Zeiss ZE 50MP f/2?

Sell your 28 + 35 + 50 and you got it. No need to worry about AF performance, front/back focusing or anything.

Couple that with the 6D + iPad for critical focusing and you're done. ;)

You can tether the 6D with an iPad?

Yes, I saw it at Photokina. The Canon employees were playing with it.
Nothing like microfocusing on a 10" retina display. Very impressive.

The 6D just got immensely cooler.

But, how 'bout that 35mm f/2 IS, eh? Yeah!

It makes a ton more sense to me than the 24-70 f/4L.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

It was definitely cool to see.
I'm sure the 35 f/2 IS is a good lens, maybe even sharper than the 35L.
We shall see soon...

Cept I'm an Android user ;) So I'd rather a Nexus 10 or a Asus Transformer Prime Infinity

But seriously, Not that into MF, I moved to Canon to get AWAY from having to MF all the time ;)

Really though, I'm between the 35mm f/2 IS and the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 A... its a tough choice, the samples i saw from that Sigma are JAW dropping in terms of sharpness

Personally I would go 35f2IS ;)

I doubt the Sigma is sharper than the new Canon. AF accuracy and consistency can almost be gauranteed to be great. Sigma? I am not so sure....

Similar price with IS to boost. f1.4 is too shallow for food shot anyway imo.
