what about the ergonomics of the 6D do you find so off putting...aside from being 2mm thinner, i don't see much difference to the 7D...

and aren't you mainly shooting flowers, and food now...do you really need 8fps for that? 4.5fps should be fine...

Joystick being the primary difference. Though not as much an issue due to lack of AF points; but that just exacerbates the question i think I think; not lesson.

I think they(Canon) are thinking of the 6d as a full frame 60d; while the 5dmkIII as a full frame 7d. (kinda sorta)

^- That right there, Granted, havnt held the 6D, but i have held a 60D and the rear joypad is an absolute no in my book... I hated it.. not only the feel but also the fact it was a bit painful for me to use...The D600 wins between the two because its comfortable for me to shoot it... Stupid reason i know

Insects and birds are areas where the 8fps is handy at times, you're right i dont -need- it, i just find it handy sometimes, When im shooting flowers and food im generally in single shot, I'd -prefer- closer to 6fps over 4.5, Thats all

Yeah, $900.. Wow.. just wow at that..

my jaw dropped, I didnt expect it to be $900

So you can have the 35mm f/2 IS for $850 or pay $50 more for an extra stop of light... Hmn... Kinda no brainer

Agree. I saw the lens and perked up a bit, thought it might be a pretty useful prime to have... and then I saw the price. Absolutely couldn't believe it cost that much! I was literally expecting nearly half of that. Even if my expectations were unreasonably low, the price is still unreasonably high. I doubt I'd ever consider paying what it costs new, even with a price drop and a Canon rebate.

I think this forum's used section has made us spoiled with the $550 17-40s and the $250 50 1.4s.

except they're never below 580 and 280 respectively. And how is that spoiled? this is not a huge discount from new price of 680 and 360.

It's spoiled because people now expect lenses to be similar prices to those right out of the gates...

If the 35 f/2 IS was priced at 750, would you buy it?

nope i'm too poor for that either way. but you can't compare used to new prices. i'm sure the 800 will become 700 soon enough, and used will be 600. Still overpriced IMO but people are willing to spend, otherwise they'd already be cheaper.

if it is sharp in the corners and center wide open, I might. Reviews will say a lot.

I am also interested in the reviews, but feel better about my old 35f2 after some tests. It is pretty sharp,at F2 and sharpens up some at f2.2. I don't see further gains going to f2.5. It is sharper than I need at F 2 and really fine in the corners by F5.6 or any aperture I might want to use for street photography.
For my purposes, the only downsides of the older lens is poor resistance to flare.
USM, IS, and better performance at F2 might justify a higher price. If contrast is higher, the lens might be attractive, but I am going to wait for more compleat reviews.

The 35/2 IS seems to be pretty sharp, about the same as the 35L. The new Sigma seems to be sharper though.

That Sigma is pretty much the undisputed king of 35mm focal length for the most part, Only the Zeiss is "better" and then thats more of a rendering thing than sharpness....

My 28mm still is sitting in the for sale section and its been almost a month, i think im going to pull the ad now.. Ah well, i sold the lens that i didnt use and still have the one i do use.. So ill just keep using my 28mm for now..

So i figured I'd pop in here and say I played with a 6D today

From playing with it I can say that I was pretty surprised by the AF speed and accuracy (With the 24-105 f/4L IS) and overall it didnt feel "sluggish" or slow or anything.. IQ looked good but i didnt get any shots from it to take home and view... And yes, I did see the FF difference in DoF and such... The 6D was a really nice camera overall (Exactly as i expected it would be)

But I wont be buying one..

My thoughts on the ergonomics were spot on, The camera is great to hold until i tried changing AF points, The AF selection joypad is in a massively uncomfortable place for me, In fact it -hurt- to bend my thumb down to select them.. Trying to use the dials to do so was inconvenient as well...
