Saf (restaurant vid)

Friends wife's parents own this restaurant/bar and asked for a little vid. Not fantastic but done on a £0 budget. Shot on a 600D.

Nicely done. A bit dark to my like though (personal preference). What lens did you use for the shoot?

I agree it's a bit dark, partly to hide any garbage bags/crap in the background. Could be lighter though

Its a good concept, but I find the execution lacking. The colorization makes the food look very unappealing, there are no wide angle shots that show the space as a whole, and no address or other location information.

Couldn't film anything wide due to other cafe's not wanting to be shown unfortunately, they share seating space etc. They only requested the info you see and no more as it's going on their site.

Some killer shots there and a very strong consistent feel to the video. Unfortunately the feel was rather sinister and had me thinking they'd killed someone and were serving them up. A brave choice, I'm not sure it worked for the subject matter. I think I would have taken the saturation the other way to make it a bit more zesty or used a warmer colour grading, or both.

It's a difficult one as there is probably a fine line between "calm and sophisticated" and "sinister" but I think you found it .

I have become pretty disillusioned with Cinestyle. While it does give great latitude in light levels I find it very difficult to drag back from looking washed out without getting strange colour artefacts. There is probably a nac to it but I haven't hit it with any consistency yet. It's great for sinister though.

Totally agree with you after looking at it a few days later, it does come across sinister. Most of my work is coming off that way and it's me trying to find the right subject matter. I mean it's nice doing all these sorts of jobs but like this it doesn't always call for a sinister look.
