Quick summary: format your CF card while your G3/G5 is powered by the adapter [not the battery.]

Details: I have a Kodak 256 MB CF card that had errors on my G3. Recently I got a G5 in exchange for the G3. While the G5 was running off the adapter, I formatted the Kodak, filled it up as much as I could [reducing resolution/compression towards the end] and found no errors at all.

Then I formatted the card agin, this time while the G5 was running off the battery. Result? Memory error, one lost picture.

Yesterday I transferred the pics and reformatted with the adapter on and plugged in. I've filled it up to about 50% capacity and have yet to see an error.

Because I cannot conclude anything concrete from this, I request everyone who has flawed Compact Flash cards to format them while the camera is adapter-powered, then see if anything's changed for the better.

Cheers and good luck,
Jason
