Was trying to make up my mind on this combo over the Canon 100-400 since I got the same reach plus I'd have the 2.8 with just the lens. I ended up goiong with the MKII lens and MKIII 2X since I heard the 2X MKII wasn't as sharp. I've had them now for a few months and can't complain. I've actually looked over at the 100-400 page and feel that the IQ I get from this combo meets or exceeds some of the pics over there. I had a difficult time finding any pics or threads dedicated to this combo so I hope this helps!

Wow these are great shots. Looks like the 2x does you a good job, trying to make my mind about the sigma 70-200 with 2x. Thanks for posting. Do you know if the Canon 2x will work with a sigma lens?

Nice Shots Dr.D...... I've been using this same combo..... Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 MKII + 2X converter MKIII for the past year. It has out performed my friends 100-400 Mk1 and has given me the added bonus of going back down to 70-200. I also use this lens with my 1.4x converter MKIII giving me a reach of 100-280 @f/4......I'm yet to do a comparison with the newly released 100-400 MK2. From the fantastic images I've seen posted in this forum I think it's going to be a tough one to beat.

I just bought this combo too, but haven't got a chance to shoot with 2x, because of the weather... What shutter speed are you using when shooting "static" birds at 400 mm? Please post more photos here! :-)

My 2x III came today...can't wait to try it
