There are very few photo's that couldn't use some improvements and this one could as well. From a composition stand point, I like it. No cropping needed. Everything in the image works to support the theme so it's simplified which is also a good thing. Focus is on target. Though this image could use a little more USM. It probably softened up a little when you re-sized it. I always do my sharpening as the last step before saving. So if I save two copies, one to post and one to print, I'll do my sharpening on the full size, then save it... then I'll undo the sharpening and resize to my posting size, then sharpen it. Chris was right, Your color could use a little boost, but his edit above is a little overdone for my taste (Sorry Chris). The one thing I would have tried doing with this is darken up the sky. I can see a hint of blue so I know it's not all gone. Hopefully you shot this in RAW. What I would do is open a copy to photoshop where the sky is nice a blue which would leave the foreground underexposed, then open a copy where the foreground is exposed correctly which would leave the sky as it is which is slightly overexposed(not blown out). Then I could combine the two images to make a composite image. That would be the next best thing to using a polarizing filter on the lens which would have made this shot much more dramatic. Keep at it though. ~John

Chris, I like the warmth of the extra saturation. John, excellent advice, specially about shooting RAW. I have run this image through Photoshop CS, using Shadow and Highlight and a little USM.
