New camera and lens coverage, a few minor bug fixes and big news for Mac people, support in Develop for Retina screens.

I wonder if there are any performance improvements.

Now that I have 8 processes, this is the second question on my mind.

Lord, I hope so. I'm pretty fed up with Lr4's unbelievable amount of hangups and slowness. I'm looking for an alternative program. I've been a huge Lr fan for years, but it's practically unusable now.

I've been running running LR 4 for alost 2 months with no issues what so ever. My system is an i7 2600K running at 4.4 and 16 gig of RAM. My lightroom catalog is on my SSD and my windows cache is as well. When running LR4, all the processors are working evenly. LR4 has been extremely fast and stable on my system.

Usually the candidates are additional camera support with minor upgrades to software.

I have a stock 2600K with 8GB of RAM and LR4 runs well for me apart from spot correction.

So in laymens terms, LR4 runs great on your Ferrari PC.

Yep! The biggest upgrade I've found is RAM. Adobe products seem to gobble up as much as you can through at it. Before the Ferrari, I had a Yugo with 1 processor, 1 hard drive, and 1 Gig of RAM. It was slow and unstable with LR2. Programs are only as good as the machines you use it on.

RAM is so wildly cheap these days that everybody should have at least 4GB.

4GB is not gonna get you far. But to reiterate your point, I just bought 16GB of performance desktop RAM for about $70, so yea no reason not to have abundant RAM.

PS users might want to grab the camera raw 7.3 RC as well: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/cameraraw7-3.html (external link)

I haven't noticed any performance improvements in the new RC. I think we'll need to wait for LR5 for any serious improvements.

I consider 8GB and a decent SSD for the LR catalog to be the minimum for good to great performance. Put the LR4 install and catalog on the SSD and your raw files on a separate 7200RPM or hybrid hard disk and performance should not be an issue. It's all about multiple spindles to quote a database term. But since more RAM can never hurt, I just ordered my new laptop with 16GB. :D

LR is not RAM hog from what I know.

How much are you using when not running LR4?
