Hey guys...so I'm not a gamer at all, but winter is upon us and the price of PS3s is coming down, so I'm thinking about picking up a PS3 and Gran Turismo 5 just to monkey around with...I see that you can play it online...

Do you have to pay for it, or is it free? And how does a PS3 connect to the internet (does it have WiFi, or will I have to run a wire from my router)...

Thanks,
T

PS3 online is free.
Online gaming is best when connected via ethernet.
Have fun

Thanks, appreciate it!!! :)

Ethernet? Is that straight out of the wall? Or can I just run a wire from my wireless router to the console? (I only have one wall wire, and that's running the wireless router).

your wireless router (usually) have ethernet ports on the back you can use one of these ports to connect your PS,
the one coming out of the wall (usually) is the main cable that goes to the modem and or TV

I run my Ps3 wireless and havent had issues with lag. Now issues caused by my ISP is another story. Just make sure your router is a good one if you go wireless.

Awesome, thanks! Using it with wifi now...works like a charm!

The only thing is...most races I find are like 2/16 people or whatever...do I just have to hang around that race until the grid fills up? Seems like a waste of time...

It varies. When GT5 first came out, it was quite packed. Now that its been out for a while, they are now playing the "in" game of the week.

Dang...thanks...I was afraid of that...so I guess the best bet is to join rooms that are pretty much full if I don't feel like waiting around forever?

Thats about what I do when I do the online thing (which is hardly). One thing I found with online gaming, peoples ego's get butt hurt rather quickly. Played HAWX2 online (aircraft fighting game) and the "kid" who started the room booted me off when I blew his F22 out of the sky with an A10 many times during the match. Considering he just sat straight and level trying to line people up for missiles, it was easy pickings.

haha that sucks...I think I might just keep the online thing for racing my friends/brother. (I live in South Korea right now, my brother's in Canada, it would be sweet to do a bit of racing together :D )
