Got out to Ridgefield again yesterday and sat for while watching the swans fly over. Amazingly beautiful birds.

I think this is a Trumpeter Swan but not sure. Note the continuation of the Pacific NW gray background.

Nice BIF's, Dave. I think they are tundra swans. You can confirm this by cropping close to the head. If that is a yellow spot in front of the eye, then it is. It appears to be on my monitor.

Thanks Rex - I got quite a few of these guys flying over but I can't find one with any identifiable yellow. The images are not all that clear (70-200/2.8 w/2X) but they all seem to be looking up....

But eBirds shows a lot more Tundra Swans at Ridgefield than Trumpeter.

I agree that these look like Tundras; one can see the yellow spot, even in these two shots that you have posted. They sure are magnificent though, no matter which species; well done.

Thanks for the info - I''ll go with Tundra. They are a beautiful bird and just amazing in flight.

Thanks Tony - they were a bright spot in a dark week.

Thanks Flo.

I sat on the side of the road for over an hour eating lunch and taking pictures as they flew over the car. There were literally hundreds of them on the lake and they kept coming up in twos and threes and flying over me.
