I'm looking to buy rechargeable batteries while waiting for my Yongnuo YN-568EX flash to arrive. This one has pretty good reviews:

I have never purchased rechargeable batteries other than those that come with my camera, cell phone, iPod etc. so I don't know if those are any good. Anyone care to give me feedback on Sanyo eneloop batteries? Btw, why are they only 1.2 volt? Aren't AA or AAA batteries voltage normally 1.5V?

They are good. Pretty much any of the low self discharge batteries will be good for you.

I just finished checking all links. Looks like everyone vouches for Sanyo eneloop batteries. Thanks. I'll be getting them soon.

Haven't noticed any difference between my Eneloops and my Amazon rechargeables except that the Amazons seem to take slightly longer to recharge than the Eneloops in the same charger. (Have not done any scientific measurements though)

A quality charger is a good investment. I have eneloops several years old that still perform well using the Maha C-9000.

I don't get why the Eneloops are so popular especially given the 6500 pops thread linked to on the second post. OK so they are the best if you want to charge them and have them sit in your camera bag a month unused- not important to me because I use my camera enough to not have that happen. However they get pretty weak scores on recycle time and longevity under use.

I use the Energizer NiMH ones and not because they are any better or worse than the others, but because every store that carries any batteries has them. I have never seen Eneloops at Target for instance and I wouldn't go out of my way based on the 6500 pops tests to get them.

I use the Energizer NiMH batteries as well, for the same exact reason... Availability. I can pop into almost any store and get them if I need to.
