I don't get why the Eneloops are so popular especially given the 6500 pops thread linked to on the second post. OK so they are the best if you want to charge them and have them sit in your camera bag a month unused- not important to me because I use my camera enough to not have that happen. However they get pretty weak scores on recycle time and longevity under use.

I use the Energizer NiMH ones and not because they are any better or worse than the others, but because every store that carries any batteries has them. I have never seen Eneloops at Target for instance and I wouldn't go out of my way based on the 6500 pops tests to get them.

I think I've used mine once in the past 2-3 weeks... I don't need Speedlites every time I use my camera.

I use powerex due to a review I read (itmight be the 6500 pops). I tried the energizer. They aren't even in the same playing field as these powerex batteries. Once I had a good charger I realized why I'd had issues with the energizers. They were all over the place for actual capacity, and your system is only as good as your weakest battery.

Eneloops. Who cares if they are available everywhere? the point of rechargeables is that you don't have to buy more (for a really long time). I've seen consumer reports tests that show VERY impressive recycle times for the Eneloops, and Energizer are almost equivalent. But when you factor in the shelf life AND # of times you can recharge them, Eneloops are the clear winner. The only better battery is the more Eneloops MAx (or whatever they're called and they are rated 2500 mAh minimum, but they are almost twice as expensive so not exactly worth it for everyone.
