Just wondering what were or would be the first accessories you would buy for your DSLR?

I'm not talking Lenses or Flashes. Extra battery? Grip? Remote? GPS? Wireless? Filters? Etc. I would say memory cards, but that's a given.

When I had my 5Dii I bought a spare battery and grip with it. Hardly found myself using the grip though. I'm not one for bulk I guess.

A new strap and a lens hood if you didn't get an L lens. Also, a tripod if you're going to be doing any kind of work that would benefit from a tripod.

What were they? A bunch of cheap worthless filters and tele adapters and whatnot...

What should it have been? A good tripod, a good ballhead, a L bracket, BR Strap....

Oh nice! I did a search first and didn't see that. But I was also curious about people's FIRST accessories because I just switched to Nikon so I am kinda starting over. I'm surprised I haven't seen anybody say a grip was first.

Besides the necessary accessories such as flashes, lems, UV filters, etc... The things i would recommend new photogs to get are gray card, ND filter, hood man hood loupe, and a very large 5-in-1 rectangular reflector (use it often as a scrim to diffuse direct sunlight if there's no possibility to shoot in the shade).

If u can't tell, I do tons of portraits on the beach in direct sun... ND filter and a large scrim are like gold to me.

First time round (550D)I went the cheap ebay route for screw on x2, x0.5 - never again, and wired & wireless triggers,

Also bought tripod, 3-way head, monopod, ball head, and a flashgun, oh and a couple of expencive CPL's

This time round (7D) I have a couple of additional no brand batteries, Cokin square filter holder with GND's & ND's, a Pixel wired/wireless timer trigger and 3 Yongnuo RF-603 flash triggers (brilliant).

Next on the list is a genuine Canon grip, another flashgun and a set of (probably Polaroid) makro rings.

After having a camera, flash and lens, these are the things I'd suggest in order of acquisition.

1) A bag. Over time this becomes several bags, but you pretty much need at least one bag.
2) A tripod. Get a decent one and you can avoid buying twice.
3) A comfortable strap, if you are the kind of person that uses straps. I am.
4) Spare battery. This is less important than most people think since batteries last so long, but it's relatively cheap so why not?
5) Remote shutter release. Just handy for anything on a tripod.
6) Remote flash triggers

Knowing what i know now, my uses, and priorities:

- First thing has always been a spare battery.(I hate having to recharge the battery when it's only half-used....just in case).
- Next..a good tripod/head, if i don't have one.
- Good CPL
- Wired remote shutter.
- Rocket blower.

I would have acquired all of these within no longer than 2 weeks of buying the camera/lens.
