Up until I got these last year as an Xmas present from the wife I had been using the "old-fashioned lens cleaner liquid on lens paper and wipe dry with chamois" method and the lens pens is a whole lot better and easier. And it doesn't leave any "water" marks behind, either, like the lens cleaner liquid does. I have no idea how it works but it sure does do the job well! And, btw, mine are not Nikons. ...Leo

Mine's identical except it's a different brand. Works like a charm...as a quick fix until you can get somewhere to do a real cleaning. Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here

I got a couple when Amazon had them on sale for $5 each. They work great! As a precaution though, before using it I blow dust off the lens surface with my rocket blower. This makes sure that when the pen is applied, there wouldn't be any dust particle to cause scratches on the surface. Pio
