Great capture of the emotion, I really love the expression.

Unfortunately I do agree with Rick (though I think he meant left side). You've got good detail (though seems a touch soft, which might be OK in this instance, not everyone like a tack-sharp portrait) on the right, and if you had carried that over to the left side and retained detail, it'd be very nice. I'm not saying both sides should be equal in brightness, but you lost a lost more detail than I think you should've on the left. It looks like some of the detail might still be there if you shot this in raw and dropped the exposure just a bit.. You can use curves or levels in PS to localize the blown out areas and still maintain the facial details.

Still a great capture though, and I think the person and the emotion come through, which is the important part.

I think the effect was intentional. I like it. Amplifies the face and expression.
