With the 100L and extension tubes, the focus ring was only two inches from this guy so I had a hard time getting closer and getting the focus right.

Plus he kept moving around. I don't know how you guys have the patience to get your shots.

Very nice Brown Recluse. They do tend to be a bit skittish when they feel exposed.

I have to ask, was he relocated or terminated after the photo session?

Regards,
-Brandon

He was not terminated. I tapped the cushion he was on and he ran off. There were 4 others his size in the bathroom and he ran off into the corner with the others. I don't like them running around in the barn, but I can always find a dozen every time I go in there. If I look hard enough I could find more.

I never touch or open anything without being super cautious.

Nice shot.

If it is any consolation I find focus difficult even with inanimate objects, using a focus rail. :)

Nice grab!
We have an abundance of Black Widows here and I've tried twice to get a decent pic. They are way too aggressive though and had to be dispatched. Same for scorpions!
Certainly nerve racking when you have your face that close!
I have had very good luck with a Huntsman and a Praying Mantis.

Glad to hear he (she?) wasn't terminated. That is a rather large looking specimen. We recently found a bunch in a wood pile while camping, but none were nearly that large.

Again, great shot!

Excellent capture; shows the violin very well. I've shot many scorpions and Black (and Brown) Widows, but have yet to see a Recluse. I'm really in no hurry to see one around my house ;)

Nice photo. I wouldn't want to get near a brown recluse thanks to Google image... their bites can do some serious damage.
