Looking at your Flickr Kenj I had to go back 6 pages to find something where the limited focus ability of the 5DII may have had an effect. You also have to remember while the 7D has a fabulous system, the 5DII is not as bad as most make out. Have you ever tried one?

A LONG time ago in a store i played with a 5D2/Brick for about 15 minutes, it was about a month before i dropped the cash on my 7D, I barely remember the experience... I do remember being quite surprised at how spritely it was compared to my 30D however

You're right, its probubly not as bad as most make it seem, However its more a question of the spread of the AF points, I feel like im frequently at the edges of my 7D's AF array.. the 5D2 doesnt cover as much... But then again could i work around that? Hmn, Im not sure...

...But then a little thing starts to tug at me, Telling me its a really dumb idea to dump $900 on that type of lens for a "mere" crop SLR like the 7D, That such a lens is wasted on a cropper since I'm not using most of it

Don't buy into the whole "lens X is wasted in's crop". Hell a crop only uses the best part of "FF" lenses!!

If you really want a FF camera and can afford it then I say do it. But I wouldn't limit your lens choice just because you have a crop camera.

A lens is only wasted if its never used!!

You've got a 70-200, do you have the same worries when using that?

^- No.. lol..

Also holy zombie thread..

Funny enough I played with a 6D yesterday... Pretty nice little camera, the AF is quite fast and seemed very accurate in the store, Couldnt live with the ergonomics however (Specifically the AF joypad was painfully uncomfortable for me to operate) I DID see the FF "difference" on the rear screen when it came to depth of field and such... but I feel I really should wait till I can have a 5D3

Same reason I went with a 5DMK III. Couldn't deal with the 60D-ishness of the 6D after owning a 7D! As for the Sigma 35mm, my friend bought one and it was love at first sight. Talk about a sexy looking lens! I wanted one before I even saw a picture! :p

I played with it again because one thing on the 6D bugged me that i forgot to mention... The viewfinder..

I mean, even though its not a 100% finder, id expect it to still be larger than my 7D.. and its not... its around the same size, I had to mush my face in against the thing so hard..

The AF however is shockingly GOOD, i messed with it and tried to screw it up and i just couldnt, Its a real shame, if it was the same specs in a 7D body id actually buy it, no joke

Really? Because I compared the 6D and 7D side by side and saw a clear difference in the viewfinder; the 7D was much more "cramped".

Also, the 35 is absolutely not wasted on crop. It is definitely sharper even in the centre, and better built than the 30 or the 28. It is, however, heavy and unbalanced on a smaller camera (which is not a problem for you since you have the 7D).

Don't know which way to advise you to go, but I completely agree with everyone who is saying that you shouldn't worry about wasting a FF lens on a cropper...

today I picked up the 40D and I can say that the viewfinder is more cramped than what I had gotten used to on the 6D.

But it what you get used too. I think you will find that if you spend some time with the 6D and then go back to the 7D you will notice that difference.

BTW the 6D is worlds above the 40D

My problem was that I really liked the layout of the back of the 7D (and, of course, the 5D) and the 6D was too much like a Rebel for my liking. Had they kept the buttons to the left of the LCD and included the thumb switch I'd probably have purchased it, but, in retrospect, I'm glad I didn't because the AF system on the 5D MKIII is so freakin' amazing!

Well, since the thread was revived and you haven't made up your mind........ I have both a 1D3 and 5D2. I absolutly adore the AF in the 1D3 and I hate the 5D2. I just hate it. The AF points are too cluttered around the center like you have mentioned, the outer points don't work for a lot of things. But you know what??? I never use the 1D3, ever. use it so little now that I have thought about selling it. I love the 5D2 so much and everything thing else it does meets or beats the 1D3 (excluding the obvious build and FPS) For me as a mainly landscape/ walk around photographer the 5D2 is everything I need it to be and I always have it with me. The only time I have left the 5D2 at home was on a trip to Colorado to shoot taekwondo for my friend. I'd be willing to bet that once you get used to using center point AF, you would fall completely in love with the 5D2.

The only thing to consider is, do you shoot action and regularly use the 7D's 8fps? Or do you shoot in single shot mode? If single shot, go for the 5D2.

After seeing some of the photos in the 6D thread with the Sigma35 today, I'm going FF and Sigma35. I'm sort of in the same situation as you KenjiS and I don't want any regrets so I'm going straight for the 5D3 and the Sigler. Was thinking about getting a 17-55 and 70-200 f2.8 IS ii but the FF bug is too strong. Earwax69, love your work with the Sigma35.

Erm, Apologies, I SWEAR I stated this, But I guess I did not.. Please note I did not revive it! Lol

I DID make up my mind back in November, I decided to just sit tight for now in regards to my camera and invest in lenses, I listed my 28mm f/1.8 and my 35mm f/2 for sale, Sold the 35mm off, the 28mm f/1.8 hasnt sold so I'm keeping it for the time being

I also got a Tokina 11-16 for Christmas which sorta cemented the "Keep the 7D for now" decision, I'm actually having a ton of fun with the Tokina right now.. Still very much want the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 but for right now I'm going to be patient and wait a few months, Maybe my birthday, Who knows

Why I decided against changing the camera body out:

-The 6D and D600 arent for me, I cant find anywhere to handle the 5DII before I bought one, and a 5DIII is simply too pricey, Handling the 6D recently confirmed this, the ergonomics are not good for me, on the plus side? the AF was really nice on the 6D, I'd have no complaints using it from my testing of it in the store

-My 7D isnt a pristine pretty example, it has battlescars, its worn, its older, its NOT going to sell for a lot of money at this point compared to the other 7D's on the market, I'd rather wait till im more comfortable keeping 2 cameras around OR the 7D is dead and thus NEEDS to be replaced

-I do use the action abilities from time to time, I dont NEED 8fps sure..but it sure comes in handy for macro work and the birds sometimes...

-Switching to full frame might create headaches in regard to lenses and necessitate switching some things around, I dont feel like doing that right now

-Wireless flash transmitter, I use it sometimes when out and about, I like not having to purchase and carry some form of transmitter module to get that feature, Especially for macro where i can pull my 580EXII off my camera, lay it down or prop it up to angle the light differently to light a macro subject in a pinch
