I would say NO, if you look carefully at the picture what looks like a handle of a bag is in fact the bottom part of the guy in the blue shirt's tie. If you look left of the tie knot you will see a bit of hair, implementing that someone else is standig behind Mr Blue Shirt with a black jacket on, seen left of the tie going all the way down, to the left of Mr Blue Shirt.

I agree, I see a woman in a black dress (wearing high-heels) behind the guy carrying his binoculars.

the 'pickpockets' face seems to be concentrating on something very 'important'

Her face (along with her hand) looks like she's "concentrating on something very important", too! ;)

you know, I thought for a minute that she was 'planted' Frank
by the pick pocket(er)
how she is taking the full attention of the man , he who seems to be very un at ease with her ,
nervous in fact
like as though he didn't know her but she suddenly came on to him

bear with me all, please

Q
was she a ploy and a distraction for the other man's movements

also, the security camera's would not catch him in a crowd
and he had to move fast while in there
(which he is doing ,
whatever he is doing, he is moving fast , even his face is )

I wish I knew for sure

I want to thank you all very much
I really appreciate your opinions and read all of them slowly as all points of view are very reasonable as to what may be happening
thanks also for the nice comments on the picture

I think he is dodgy looking there as there was plenty of space for him to walk on the sidelines if he was in a hurry
the crowds were massing around just there
I had to be in the middle of them as I was taking photographs (with difficulty)
but he is the only person with a distorted face as though trying to squeeze something out of some thing

or someone
even the most squashed of us looked ok (being squashed)
but he looks a trickster (here)

:lol::lol::lol:

:cry::cry:
I guess we'll never know

many thanks to you all

I never saw your reply until I posted

A few years back, I'm walking with my wife; Sunday afternoon, broad daylight, Fifth Avenue and 50th Street, right in front of St Patrick's Cathedral in midtown Manhattan. We notice a few ruffians (hoodlums) in front of us, about 20 feet, kind of surrounding an elderly woman who has her handbag on her shoulder. One of the punks is in the process of removing her wallet after unzipping the bag. The woman has absolutely no idea what is taking place.
Well, I couldn't allow it to happen. As it is occuring, I begin to walk quickly to close the gap, the whole time my wife and I holding hands as we always do.
Just as he's slowly pulling the wallet up from inside the bag, I'm on him, only he doesn't know it.
Well, know it he did, as I planted my palm-heel strike square in his back. It sent him sprawling on his face across the sidewalk, while the rest of his cohorts took off running. In a second or two he peeled his face off the sidewalk and limped-ran away as well.

The woman was startled but still unaware of what occured. I said to her: Ma'am, I just saved your wallet. (Perhaps a poor choice of words, but it's what came to me.) She was so shocked that she couldn't utter a word.

As God is my judge (and I know religion is not allowed here) the above is entirely true.

you were very brave Mdjak,
thanks for the story
but thank goodness it ended ok

I was (almost) mugged when getting onto the train in the underground in Rome last year

a fellow stepped in front of me as I was just inside the door (in the crowd) and then he turned around so quickly to face me right up close
while at the very same moment another fellow behind had his hands around my waist, then pulling at my shoulder bag (which was across my chest)
this was in the middle of a big crowd stepping onto the train
I dug my elbow into the fellow behind and pushed the fellow in front against the people
everyone saw it

the two guys jumped off the train so fast, as was their plan I imagine ( hoping with bag and all) before the train pulled out , you know underground trains, they take off, the doors shutting quickly
all this happening (the two fellows mugging me) while the crowd were getting on

now I will always remember that this could and did happen
I would not have thought about it before
it was all so fast
and you know how we are distracted when alighting a bus or train

take care in those situations
you could have got serious injury
the lady will always be grateful, although she never saw it coming
