The weather in Houston has been outstanding for a 'winter' season so I took my boys fishing the other day. In 1 hour they caught 3 catfish and 1 park ranger. The ranger wanted check on licenses.

I'm always looking to improve so share your comments with me. I shot these with a 100-400 L with a polarizing filter.

I like these shots. I like the expression on their faces. Subjects appear sharp and in focus.

I like the second shot best. To my eye, I'd like to see them a little sharper with a tighter crop on the 3rd, like you did on the 2nd.

Your second photo is great, although I'd have liked to see it a bit sharper. Got a big laugh out of his doleful expression with his body turned away from the water and the loosened fish line.... like a big one just got away from him with the hook and all... :)

It might be just me, but the chopped off fishing pole bothers me. On the first picture I think it would have been a little better if you framed it so he was on the right hand side and the whole fishing pole was showing. Same for the second, get the top of the pole in.

I love the expressions!

In the first shot the background is too noisy, bad bokeh. When you can't choose you background is when you should minimize your depth of field. All in all, it's a nice series of shots.

Great series of your boys fishing, the second is my favourite, but you've gotta love the optimism in the first with that huge net in the background waiting to make sure the 'big one' doesnt get away.

It is a very enjoyable series. The first two look great to me (I don't mind the chopped pole because the loose line and the boy's expression tell the real story). On the third one, I'd suggest a closer crop and some sharpening...and if you could boost the color a bit. It doesn't seem as saturated as the first two (the second being my absolute fav. btw).
