Hi guys,

I seem to remember reading somewhere on here that the Nikkor 50 1.4 has magical bokeh...am I remembering correctly? This is the one (from the seller's ad):

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'text/html' | Byte size: ZERO

Also...how much is that lens worth? I found one locally for about $45, but may be able to talk the guy down a bit...there's also someone selling a Nikon lens to Canon body adapter for about $13, so I figure for around $50, I could have a fun little setup.

I have the Eg-D screen in my 5D2 and probably won't bother swapping screens as this lens would be used very rarely, just for fun...would it be horrendous trying to MF with the Eg-D screen?

Thanks,
Tamas

Nikion 1.2 is where the good bokeh is at but the 1.4 should be good too...

I own that lens, and the bokeh is fantastic. If i have time today, I will take a few shots with it, and post them. As far as what its worth I would say around 50-75 for the lens pictured as it is an older manual lens.

*edit* on an unrelated note...are you a member of s10f?

I just had a look at the first 5 pages of your flickr and I don't really see any shots with bokeh?

If you want a cheap good lens with awesome bokeh, go Helios 44.

Awesome, thanks, I'd really appreciate that! :) Oh yeah, and apparently there are some "minor scratches" on the glass...for some reason I thought this would be a great deal haha...

Yeah, I'm on S10F, but I haven't really posted in years. I had my S10 for 9 years, but sold it a bit over 3 years ago...I'm just keeping this username because people know me as this and all my buy/sell feedback is under this handle haha.

Here's my truck, by the way...I bought it as a beat-up landscaping truck...by the time I sold it, it had a custom interior, big stereo, 5/8 static drop on 18s and 30 series, custom built 2.5, etc...all done by me and my friends...it was fun, but now I'm glad I'm into photography instead :D

Yeah, I don't take a lot of bokeh shots, but I want to change that. I generally stick to UWA stuff, which is cool and all, but as you can see (my last two shots, actually haha), I'm starting to play around with bokeh stuff again...the main reason for this Nikon would be to find out how I like the 50mm range again...I never seem to quite like it, but I'm always tempted by the Sigma 50 1.4...I kind of just want something fast to play around with...I think I'd like the FL of the 85 1.4 better...but that's twice the money...this lens really would be just to give the whole 50-range a trial run (without going back to another 50 1.8...had that lens 3 times, loved it, but I just want to try something different).

You can see the difference in Bokeh.

Is that the 50 1.8G? I've got it, I think the bokeh is very nice from it.

Awesome, thanks for the pics!! The bokeh from the 1.4 is noticeably smoother!

That's too bad that S10F has died down, but I guess it's inevitable...most of us were in our late teens, early 20s when that board was really active...I guess a lot of people have moved on. Still, I met some really awesome people (who are still my friends) on there. What do you drive?

I have a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 which I bought in 1975. Very sharp lens but I can't remember what to bokeh is like, and I wouldn't have even cared ;)

Nice! I love lowrider Crown Vic/Grand Marquis! I currently have an Escort wagon lowered 2 inches with some suspension goodies a big stereo and some other random crap back in Canada and a bone stock Kia Sephia in Korea haha...come a long way from dragging frame on every pebble with a static...but such is life :D I think I'll pick something up again in a few years, but you know how it is...priorities/interests shift.
