My dog, Maxie, and I found three bucks this morning on our walk in the rain. Two appeared to be pretty young, 3-4 years old, is my guess. We almost stumbled on them, we were so close. One was so determined to cross the brook separating us, to get on the trail we were on, I couldn't tell what its intentions were, so we backed off. Maxie, who rarely barks, hopped to her hind legs and let out one loud report that didn’t do much to phase them at all. I turned and pulled her back and gave the guys their space. This third fellow looks to be a bit older. He seemed confident that I had a secure hold of my dog, and that the water between us was an adequate deterrent, so he remained nested. So motionless was he, Maxie never saw him.

Taken with a iPHone 4s, in HDR mode. Wishing I had my big boy with me.

Gee - I thought $3 based on your title.
Sure you need DSLR and longer glass ...
but would rhink more BW than HDR for this.

Three bucks together, near the peak of the whitetail rut in your area, there must have been a hot doe nearby. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the kind comments, folks. Yeah, I was a bit surprised how that image turned out. HDR can be a bit tricky, using the iPhone's approach. I played with a b&w conversion and I'm not sure...I'd welcome viewing anyone's attempt.

On a lark, I gave the image to my printer, while I was having other work done, just to see what becomes of it, keeping it in the near-5x7" size range.

Looks like a rub on the small tree to the right in the foreground
