Looking at purchasing a Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6

Last year I purchased a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS lens, while I am not totally disappointed with this lens; I wished I had done more research prior to buying it.

I am now looking at buying the 28-200mm and would like to hear from those of you that have used this lens. I mainly shoot wildlife, flowers, and some portraiture. I am looking for a versatile lens that will allow me to shoot a variety of subjects without having to change lenses all the time. In addition to the 70-300mm, I also own the 18-55mm that came with my digital rebel.

If you're looking for convenience, I suppose it would be all right. It's not rated well, however, in terms of image quality. Usually, zooms with that much spread between the wide angle and the telephoto end tend to be a bit soft.

WYO, if you're seriously intending to buy one, I'll be happy to sell you mine that I pretty much never used for half the price and I'll throw in the Tiffen filter which never left the lens from day one.

I have one and use it, although im by no means a 'great photographer' i would also agree that i find it to be on the soft side its also quite bulky.
