New owner of the 300L. So far loving the increase in sharpness of this lens.

I've noticed there is a distinctive "click" when the IS (I think, might be focus) disengages. Has anyone else noticed this. All seems to be functioning fine. Just wondering if I should be concerned.

Jim

No, it's normal. You've got yourself a great lens.

300mm f4L non-IS?

It sounds like you have IS but I've heard the older 300mm f4L non-IS is sharper than the new model and I was wondering if that's the "increased sharpness" you were talking about. I'm looking at picking one up myself.

I have a mintish 300 F4 L IS for sale as well - but I am in the UK - Doh!
These are sharp lenses, with excellent colour rendition. I am only selling as I have gone to the F2.8 IS.

Brilliant Lens especially for close up work and VERY sharp but noisy, just learn to ignore the clicks and clunks, they are normal.
