.. who owns both the 50mm and the 40mm panncake.

Could someone take two similiar images from the same spot so i can see how much difference it is in framing.
Would appreciate it alot.
Want to see if i should get the 40mm again or go lower (28mm when i can afford it).

Thanks.

You should tell which 50mm you are referring to. I guess it is the one in you signature...

On a crop I really love 35mm, it's just an amazing length and gives nice framing. Especially for street photography.

Unfortunately Canon doesn't have a cheap 35 like Nikon does, but I still think the package is awesome, it's on my wish list.

35 f2 is pretty cheap...

op, skip the slow 40mm and look at the sigma 30mm f1.4...

That's pretty cool.

I been looking at the 24, 28 and 35.. and ofocurse the 40mm pancake ( i owned it for a whole day before i returned it and got the 50mm f/1.4) but i still feel that i need a wider focal length, the 28 f/1.8 USM completes the trinity.. but it is so expensive (overpriced if you ask me) so i'm trying to find subsitutes, the 35 and 28 are very old and doesent have the USM, plus, they are noisy and somewhat slow compared to the 40mm pancake.

What i really want is the 28, but since i don't have the money (maybe somewhere summer 2013) and want less mm.. the cheapest, most silent, best looking, newest.. is the pancake.

Honestly I cant imagine noticing much difference between 40 and 50.

Get the Sigma 30 1.4. It fits just about all of your requirements and is a good focal length (i.e. normal) on crop.

...or spring for a used 17-40. I know this guy who has one for sale ;).

Using my 17-40 and 50 1.4 on a crop, it's definitely noticeable to me at least. Though you're right in that it's rather slight.

The 24-105 doesnt have a mark for exactly 40 so I took my best guess. My mac at work doesnt have an exif reader on it so I cant use that to tell either, but here is the results. Not artistic but the books should give you a reference point. I was about 3 paces away.
